The Air Force intends to honor 12 airmen as the service’s 2017 Outstanding Airmen of the Year and is now seeking nominations.
The three enlisted categories of nominees are airman, noncommissioned officer, and senior NCO. Major commands and the Air Force District of Washington can nominate one candidate per category.
Nominations are due to the Air Force Personnel Center by April 4, according to an Air Force news release. Candidates’ achievements must have occurred during 2016.
Nominees must maintain retainability through Sept. 30, 2018, according to the release. If an airman has an earlier projected separation date, he or she must extend or re-enlist. Local military personnel selection officials can approve or deny extensions for the purpose of the award program. If a nominee extends enlistment for the program but is not selected, he or she can cancel the extension.
Winners are authorized to wear the Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon with the bronze service star device, according to the Air Force website.
